Intelligent Torque Angle Transducer
(Contactless + USB + Analog output)

Intelligent torque angle contactless transducer is designed to transfer power and data to a rotating shaft without any slip rings and brushes. Therefore it is maintenance free and can rotate with high speed. The rotating shaft is machined from single piece of rigid steel that is instrumented with full bridge strain gages. Angle is measured by a durable optical encoder to withstand high impact application. It is and ideal choice for on the go fastener engineer that needs to perform a torque angle test on a bolted joint without additional instrumentation. A PC loaded with MC911 program and a USB cable is all that is needed to start the torque angle testing. Additionally an analog output of the torque signal (+/- 5 Volt) along with angle signals are also provided on the I/O connector for connection to external data acquisition equipment. Two torque ranges (1x and 3x) are provided on USB and I/O connector.

Overview

iTAC operation in steps:

  • iTAC outputs Torque values in 2 methods, digital(USB connector) and analog(I/O connector)
  • Additional hardware is not required when iTAC is connected to PC via USB cable and MC911 Software is utilized
  • iTAC contains 2 Microprocessors. One on the lid (stator) and other on the rotating shaft(rotator)
  • It uses power supplied by USB to energize all the circuitry inside the iTAC
  • Stator communicates with PC via USB connector
  • Power is transferred from stator to the rotator via power transformer
  • Stator communicates with rotating shaft via data transformer
  • Rotator is instrumented with full bridge strain gage and signal conditioning circuitry
  • Rotator converts torque signal into digital values
  • Digital values are transferred to the stator via data transformer
  • Stator also reads angle values via an optical encoder
  • Stator transmits digital torque along with angle values to PC via USB connector
  • At the same time stator converts digital torque values to analog signals
  • Stator outputs the analog signals to the I/O connector for connection to data acquisition systems
  • Two torque ranges (1x and 3x) are provided on USB and I/O connector simultaneously
  • Quadrature angle signals form optical encoder are also provided on the I/O connector
