Ultrasonic

ULTRASONIC MC950

The Ultrasonic version adds an exciting new feature to the Portable and Desktop MC950. Improving technology originally developed by NASA, the Ultrasonic MC950 can precisely determine the clamp load in an actual joint, either dynamically (while tightening) or statically (pre-load), with the addition of four ultrasonic and temperature channels. With the addition of these channels, it is possible for the Ultrasonic MC950 to monitor and record four/eight bolts simultaneously, using compact and easy-to-install sensors (UTensor). By attaching the torque/angle transducers and load cells to the MC950, data for torque, angle, RPM and clamp load can be both collected and analyzed at the same time. Combined with the specialized MC911 software, a fastener engineer can view the relationship of all the parameters in a single unit. Moreover, the ultrasonic and temperature channels make it possible to monitor load loss and distribution of load after fastening a part. The Ultrasonic MC950 is offered as an option for Portable and Desktop MC950.

Ultrasonic Features

  • Simultaneous ultrasonic measurement from 4/8 channels
  • Measurement of load, torque, angle of rotation and RPM while tightening the bolt
  • Each channel can be programmed as pitch-catch, pulse-echo, and multiple echo
  • Multiple echo can be used for shorter bolts to increase resolution
  • Pitch-catch can be used for long or bending bolts
  • Reference echo for each bolt is saved on the hard disk
  • The reference echo is displayed in conjunction with current echo so the detection point (zero crossing) can be visually verified
  • Automatic or manual calibration with a known load (tensile machine or a load cell) vs. "time of flight," can be averaged from a sample set to produce a master calibration curve
  • Load can be determined in linear or nonlinear (yielded) states of loaded bolt
  • Calibration of temperature variation vs. elongation utilizing optional magnetic temperature sensor
  • PC laptop included – no need to transfer the data to another machine
  • All analysis and plots can be generated in the same unit
  • compatible with all magnetic or "glue-on" transducers (UTensor I, II or III)
  • Programmable pulser voltage (5 to 90 volts)
  • Square wave pulser
  • Automatic gain control on each channel.
  • Zero-load acoustic signatures on every fastener measured and stored in PC’s memory.
  • Optimization of fastener strength selection, reducing need to over-design
  • Size, weight and cost reductions from fewer, smaller, lighter fastener
